Community Meeting

At the end of each quarter, all of the middle school students, grades 6-8 gather together in the cafeteria for a student led, community meeting.  This is a chance for students to be recognized by their peers for making honors and high honors, as well as various other awards.  Some students who were recognized in areas other than or in addition to honors and high honors were:   World Language Awards:  Cam Willsey, Savannah Zigic, Daniel Sedic and Katya Marsh
Team Award:(voted on by peers)  Will Solow

We will be having a school wide assembly this Friday and then students will be heading out for a week of vacation!  Have a fun filled, safe vacation!!!

World Culture Fair Project

Hopefully your son/daughter has spoken to you about the project they have been working on in social studies, language arts and art class.  Each student chose a country to study and have been working on various project requirements for the past month or so.  Below are the requirements and the due dates for the project:

1)    Flag:  Your flag must be hand drawn or produced by yourself in another way that does not involve just printing one off the computer.  Examples other than drawn:  made out of felt, sew out of fabric, etc  All flags must at least be on the size of standard computer paper and show the appropriate colors  DUE DATE:  Thursday April 14th

1)    Maps: Political, Physical and 1 of your choice:  Much like your South American map project, your maps must each be done separately.  Each map must be colored, contain an accurate map key and not have erase marks shown on it.  They must be hand done and be the size of a standard computer size of paper at the minimum.  If you have another idea of how to produce the map, feel free to speak with Mr. Lasher about it.  Due Date:  All Three Maps Due: April 27th (Wednesday)

1)    Brochure:  Using Microsoft Publisher, you must have a brochure that fits the attached example. Due Date: Friday April 29th

1)    PowerPoint Slide:  You will produce one and only one slide that gives the title of your country, your name, the national anthem embedded if you can find it, 3 facts on your country and at least 2 graphics that show important landmarks or features. Due Date: Friday April 29th

1)    Voice Thread:  You will use this online Web 2.0 tool to design a visual/audio tour of your country, showing what makes it unique.  Your voice thread must contain at least 10 different pictures. Due Date: Wednesday May 4th

1)    Database/Venn Diagram:  You will be required to find the following information about your country and enter it into a team database.  All of the information can be found at http://www. cia.gov/library/publications/the-world-factbook
 Info needed for data base:  Country name, population, land area, male life expectancy, female life expectancy, literacy rate(total population), median age, suffrage age, GDP Per Capita, population below the poverty line
-After all have completed the database, we will make Venn Diagrams to show some information that makes your country unique :  Due Date: Wednesday April 27th

Most of these requirements will be completed at school.  The flag and maps can be completed at home without the use of technology so little school time will be given for these.
